Botox® Cosmetic treatment has been the most popular cosmetic procedure in the United States for the last three years. Since its FDA approval for cosmetic use in 2002, Botox has proven to be an effective treatment for facial lines and wrinkles. Williams Surgical Arts offers Botox injections for men and women who want to reduce the visible signs of aging on their faces.

What is BOTOX?

Botox is an injectable drug whose formula contains a purified form of botulinum toxin A, a substance that can inhibit nerves from sending signals. While Botox is primarily used to temporarily paralyze facial muscles to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, it also has several medical applications. It can be used to treat hyperhidrosis, a condition that causes excessive underarm sweating. Botox can also be used to help patients who suffer from chronic migraines.

The Procedure

WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM BOTOX COSMETIC INJECTIONS?

Healthy adults who are dissatisfied with their facial lines and wrinkles are good candidates for Botox treatment. Botox can treat:

  • Frown lines
  • Crow’s feet around the eyes
  • Forehead lines
  • Brow furrows
  • Smile lines
  • Lipstick lines
  • Chin wrinkles
  • Vertical neck bands

In addition to being an effective wrinkle treatment, Botox has also been used to treat migraine headaches, joint pain, and excessive sweating.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING BOTOX COSMETIC INJECTIONS

Numbing cream is rarely necessary when undergoing Botox injections, but may be used to improve comfort in sensitive areas. Using a thin needle, your doctor will inject Botox into the facial muscles that are causing your lines and wrinkles. You may need several injections in a small area.

Muscles that are treated with Botox are relaxed, but will not be prevented from forming natural expressions. The entire procedure takes only 20-30 minutes. Botox treatments can easily be combined with other facial procedures, including dermal fillers and skin resurfacing.

AFTER YOUR TREATMENT

One of the great advantages of Botox is that there is almost no recovery period or downtime. This makes it possible for you to return to normal activities right away. You may experience some slight bruising or swelling at the site of injection, which can be covered with makeup.

Once injected Botox blocks nerve impulses in the treated muscles. As a result, your face should have a more relaxed expression, with fewer lines and wrinkles. The results of Botox take 3-4 days to fully appear. Botox does not provide a permanent solution to fine lines and wrinkles. To maintain results, you will need regular treatments every 3-6 months.

UNDERSTANDING THE RISKS OF BOTOX COSMETIC INJECTIONS

Botox is considered safe and side effects are generally mild. Some possible side effects may include bruising, swelling, redness or itching at the injection site. It is also possible that you will have an allergic reaction. All of these risks will be discussed in-depth during your consultation.
