Breast Augmentation Memphis
Breast augmentation is a cosmetic surgery performed to increase the size and projection of breasts in order to enhance their appearance. Cosmetic surgeries in recent years have given more and more women new ways to improve how their body looks. Breast augmentation, or a boob job as it is more popularly known, is one of the most commonly performed cosmetic procedures.
This procedure involves placing one of two breast implant types (silicone or saline) in order to improve the overall volume and fullness of breasts. Women choose to get work done on their breasts for many reasons, including the following:
- To enhance their appearance
- To correct disproportionate and asymmetrical breasts
- To correct the effects of weight loss, pregnancy, and breastfeeding
The Breast Augmentation Consultation
The first step in getting any breast-enhancement procedure is setting up a consultation with Dr. Williams. He will determine the patient’s candidature for the surgery after considering factors such as the patient’s general health and any existing medical conditions.
As part of this consultation, the patient will communicate their goals and expectations to Dr. Williams. The patient will make choices regarding the type of implant, size of implant, shape of implant, placement of incision, and implant placement relative to the chest muscles.
Dr. Williams will create a surgical plan and schedule surgery for the patient after due consideration of all the factors.
The Surgical Process
In most cases, general anesthesia is administered to the patient. This helps to avoid any pain or discomfort they would otherwise feel during the procedure. The surgeon then makes an incision. Incisions created during the surgery can be inframammary (under the breast), transaxillary (in the armpit), or periareolar (bordering the areola).
Dr. Williams then creates a pocket in the tissues to insert the breast implant. The implant is placed and positioned behind the nipple, and the incisions are closed with sutures. The surgery is concluded by covering up the incisions and placing bandages and tape over the breasts.
Breast Augmentation Recovery
The patient is closely monitored after the surgery for any complications before being discharged from the hospital.
The surgery will likely result in swelling, soreness, and slight bruising. Dr. Williams will recommend pain medications to address soreness, as well as gels and ointments to treat bruising. Soreness and swelling will subside in time with adequate rest.
Drainage tubes may be placed in the breasts to manage the discharge of excess fluids. A surgical bra must be worn for a time in order to help support the tissues as they heal.
A follow-up appointment will be needed after about a week to remove the sutures. Normal routine activities can be resumed two weeks after the surgery. Rigorous exercise and other physically strenuous tasks are to be strictly avoided for at least four to six weeks.
The results of the surgery are immediate, but they will continue to settle until recovery is complete. Implants generally last for about 10 years and are then replaced after this time.
Breast Augmentation Cost
Breast augmentation procedures from Dr. Williams vary in price. Breast augmentation cost depends on the type of anesthesia chosen, breast implant cost, incision technique used, the overall length of the surgical session, and more.
