The neck region is one of the first places to show visible aging, making it a popular target for liposuction. Neck liposuction is less invasive, requires less down time and creates more natural results than many other facial rejuvenation procedures.

The Procedure

WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM NECK LIPOSUCTION?

If you are in good overall health, and concerned about the presence of excess neck fat, then you may benefit from neck liposuction. Neck liposuction can treat:

  • Excess neck fat deposits
  • Double chins
  • Hanging fat below the chin

Following liposuction, the neck will appear smoother, more muscular, and will convey a more youthful appearance. With the fat removed, the neck has a thinner and more toned contour. Results will be long-lasting, provided there are no dramatic shifts in overall body weight.

Neck liposuction cannot be used to treat inelastic neck skin. Alternative procedures such as a face lift or neck lift may be recommended to address this condition.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING YOUR SURGERY

An arm lift is performed under either general anesthetic or intravenous sedation. Incisions lengths vary depending on the extent of your arm lift. Minor arm lifts will only require small incisions that can be concealed in the armpit.

Those who have only a small amount of excess skin and fat may be eligible for this incision length. In more significant arm lifts, incisions will extend from the armpit to the elbow. When at all possible, incisions will be concealed within the natural contour of your arms.

Once the incision has been made, excess fat and tissue will be removed or repositioned. The skin is then stretched into a tighter, firmer position and excess skin is trimmed away. All incisions will be secured with sutures. In some cases, liposuction can be used to remove excess fat during surgery.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING YOUR NECK LIPOSUCTION

Neck liposuction lasts 30-60 minutes and only requires a local anesthetic combined with a sedative to make you drowsy. Tiny incisions will be made near each treatment area, often behind the ears or under the chin. Once the incisions have been made, a thin tube is inserted to suction out excess fat. Sutures are used to secure incisions at the conclusion of surgery.

AFTER YOUR SURGERY

Bandages are applied after surgery, as well as a compression garment to minimize swelling. There may be some swelling and bruising for 7-10 days following the surgery. Each procedure is different and the recovery time varies.

You should be able to return to your normal activities in about one week. The results will be evident despite swelling that will take a few weeks to completely subside. Incision lines will continue to fade for 12-18 months.

UNDERSTANDING THE RISKS OF NECK LIPOSUCTION

Neck liposuction has the same risks as other surgical procedures, including infection, pain, changes in sensitivity, asymmetry, and scarring. Further information about these complications will be given during your consultation. Your medical history will be thoroughly discussed to ensure that you’re a suitable candidate.

Your Neck Lipo procedure will be performed in Dr. Williams's surgery center in Germantown, TN.
